Dr Richard Bodmer and a team of friendly science staff will run 8-day research expeditions and work with you on wildlife surveys. Your help is important and makes the research and conservation possible, you make a difference. You do not need prior experience, we teach you all you need to know for the surveys. Research expeditions usually have between 6 to 12 volunteers. All dates are guaranteed to field, so once you sign up you can be sure the research expedition will run.

The fees include transfers from Iquitos-Research Station-Iquitos; all meals on site – breakfast, lunch, and dinner; elegant and comfortable cabin with amenities; lectures and briefings, and all wildlife research, surveys, and local community visits. Purchases at the Bar are not included.
*Fundamazonia fellowship support is available to students, teachers, repeat volunteers, researchers, journalists, and others who would like to apply. We will send you the application form when we receive your pre-booking information. The standard fellowship reduce the fees to $1,200 for 2026/27 expeditions. Other types of fellowships are available for postgraduate students and student projects.
**You can stay additional days at the end of the expedition, depending on availability, for $150 per day.

A 10% non-refundable deposit will be needed to confirm an expedition reservation. Full payment is due at least one month before the start date.
Cancellations are non-refundable within 30 days prior to the start date. Think about getting travel cancellation insurance.

Make sure your flight arrives before 8am on the start date.

The expedition begins at 8am on the start date and ends at 6pm on the end date at the Rendezvous Point: Hotel Casa Morey or airport.
Passport and visa Information
All team members will require a valid passport.
Tourists visas are given upon arrival in Peru for 90 days to visitors from most European and American countries. The student/volunteer team members will work under the overall inter-institutional collaborations and agreements that grant the research station permission to operate in Peru.
The purpose of your visit is for holiday/visit.
Insurance
All students/volunteers are required to obtain their own travel health insurance and have a copy of the insurance policy with them at the research station.

The Amazon is a hot, humid, sunny, and rainy ecosystem, so you need to be prepared for these rainforest conditions.
River-based surveys are conducted in small auxiliary boats. The sun can be strong and can cause sun burn, and team members should protect themselves with sun block, hat, and sunglasses.
It can rain during any time of the year, and team members should bring light rain gear suitable for tropical climates.
Transect walks can result in extensive perspiration. Team members should bring plenty of drinking water when going out on surveys. Canteen or personal drinking water container will be necessary for fieldwork.
Rubber boots are necessary to walk on the muddy and wet trails, and we have some on board if you cannot bring your own. Walking boots will get muddy and wet and are difficult to dry. Non-slip shoes should be used for river surveys and on the boat decks. Field clothes, including cotton trousers, shorts, cotton long sleeve shirts, t-shirts or short sleeve shirts and hat will be necessary for surveys and free time. It can get cool at night, so a light jacket or sweater is also important.
Binoculars will help you see animals up-close and help to identify species, and are needed for surveys.Insects abound, so bring plenty of insect repellent and a mosquito mesh hat. Insect bites can get infected, and team members should treat insect bites and keep them clean to avoid infections. Team members should always go with a guide. The guides will point out any potentially harmful insects.
Team members should wear life vests at all times when working from the auxiliary boats. Life vests should be put on prior to entering the canoe or auxiliary boat, and taken off after disembarking from the canoe or auxiliary boat. Team members should always go with a boat guide and should not handle the outboard engines. All boat guides are trained in boat safety and handling.
